STAAT-E-LEKKER: E-Bike Theft Prevention Campaign (STAAT-E-LEKKER)

STAAT-E-LEKKER campaign promotes e-bike theft prevention with practical security advice.

STAAT-E-LEKKER is a Dutch national campaign launched to combat the alarming rise in e-bike theft. The campaign name, which roughly translates to "Is your e-bike parked securely?", encourages e-bike owners to always secure their bikes properly with an extra lock, attach them to fixed objects, and take additional precautions. The campaign responds to the significant increase in e-bike thefts in the Netherlands, with 200-300 e-bikes stolen daily—a 42% increase since 2021. The initiative targets e-bike owners by emphasizing that thieves select their targets based on location and security measures. The campaign was initiated by S.A.F.E. (Foundation for Tackling Bicycle and E-bike Theft), Centrum Fietsdiefstal, CCV, and several insurance companies including Achmea, ANWB, Unigarant, ENRA, Kingpolis, ASR, and Univé. It's also supported by partners like Fietsersbond, NS, lock manufacturers, bicycle retailers, municipalities, and police. The campaign website provides practical tips and resources, and organizations can join the effort by downloading a toolkit with campaign materials. The multi-year initiative aims to make all bike thieves "unemployed" by encouraging better security practices among cyclists.
